In our first year of operation for the Dolores Doré Eccles FIne Arts Center our production of Jekyll and Hyde was invited to "take our show on the road" to the prestigious American College Theater Festival in Phoenix, Arizona. Four of our actors were honored with nominations for the "Irene Ryan Scholarship" program. And one of our actors, Skyler Scott won the distinction of "Best Actor" of the entire festival. We begin our second year with high hopes and increased expectations. All of our performing and visual programs are experiencing growth and vitality. It is exciting to watch the theatre department produce high quality plays and musicals on our new main stage and in our black box theatre. It is pleasing to the ear to listen to the beautiful sounds of our choirs and instrumental groups resonating with the perfect acoustics of the new concert hall. And it has been a visual feast to view high quality art in the new Robert and Peggy Sears Art Gallery. It has been very entertaining to watch a play or listen to a concert and then be able to take in the sights of the art gallery at the same time. Moreover, our dance program, under the direction of Li Lei, is experiencing some of its best work ever. We're also trying something new this year with a Pops Series in our Concert Hall. We hope you'll come and tell us what you think about the new series. In addition to our own productions, we’re looking forward to bringing in other cultural activities from the community and beyond. If you have an offering for which you would like to either rent one of our facilities or partner with us on a production, please contact me, or my assistant Susan Taysom, at 652-7905.Thank you for joining us again this year for a variety of spectacular cultural events. We hope you join us often; we look forward to mingling with you and celebrating the arts together at Dixie State College.
